In April 1955, Indonesian president Sukarno brought together leaders from 29 African and Asian nations together in the city of Bandung. The Bandung Asian-African Conference remains a seminal event in global history as it highlighted the participants’ concerns of decolonization, economic development, and global peace. This conference laid the groundwork for the Non-Aligned Movement, fostering a vision of solidarity, mutual respect, and cooperation among developing nations.
In 2025, the 70th anniversary of this historic event offers an opportunity to reflect on its enduring legacy and relevance with distinguished speakers:
Introduction by MEP Marc Botenga (PVDA-PTB)
Vijay Prashad (Tricontinental Institute for Social Research) – “The spirit of Bandung: How do we let the genie out of the bottle?”
Varsha Gandikota (Progressive International) – “A new New International Economic Order for the 21st century.”
Peter Mertens (PVDA-PTB) – “Mutiny: How our world is tilting 70 years after Bandung.”
